BioHive to Launch Statewide Student Chapters

SALT LAKE CITY (October 30, 2023) — BioHive, a nonprofit public-private partnership dedicated to enhancing Utah’s life science and healthcare innovation ecosystem, will partner with Utah higher education institutions and industry leaders to launch Utah’s first statewide BioHive Student Chapter initiative. This program will engage postsecondary students with the life sciences industry to enhance educational and career opportunities.

“The BioHive student chapters mark an important step in BioHive’s mission to connect the next generation of leaders with the life science and health innovation industry in Utah,” said Aimee Edwards, executive director of BioHive. “We launched chapters at four universities and have more than 600 participating students with the vision to connect students to industry statewide.”

BioHive currently has chapters at four post-secondary institutions – University of Utah, Brigham Young University, Utah State University and Utah Valley University – with additional institutions anticipated in 2024. The chapters will give students access to industry talks, workshops and key industry networking events. The program will provide students with impactful opportunities and serve as innovation hubs that foster collaboration between students, industry professionals and the broader community.

As part of the BioHive University Chapter initiative, BioHive will launch a statewide internship program in 2024. The program will provide students with unique access to paid life science internship opportunities. Through these internships, Industry will have the opportunity to influence the skills higher education students studying life sciences receive and contribute to the quality and employability of graduating students entering the Utah life science workforce.
